Pet Reproductive Counseling and Breeding Services
For the pet breeders among us, pet reproductive services are vital for the safe, responsible breeding of cats and dogs. Reproduction is a natural way of life, but breeding animals is a time-consuming occupation that requires constant attention and complete commitment. Coyne Veterinary Center is proud to offer reproductive consultations and services to reputable breeders and owners caring for pregnant pets. We understand the challenges that breeders and their companion animals face, so we consider it our responsibility to aid them in any way possible to make the process run more smoothly.
Reproductive Services We Offer
To assist our clients with pet reproduction and pregnancies, we implement a variety of breeding services, including:
- Pre-breeding exams (for males and females)
- Ultrasound (pregnancy diagnosis)
- Ovulation timing
- Progesterone level testing
- Artificial insemination (external and surgical)
- Semen evaluations
- Semen collection and transport (to out-of-state areas)
- Litter evaluation
What’s Progesterone Testing?
Progesterone testing involves checking the levels of progesterone the female is producing. This test can be performed about 5 days into their heat cycle, and helps to indicate when ovulation will occur. For breeders, the main purpose of this test is to target when the progesterone level will reach 2.5 ng/ml, so they can establish a breeding schedule or arrange for a semen sample to be shipped over. Following ovulation, progesterone levels can rise to approximately 10-80 ng/ml, which is needed to sustain a pregnancy.
